Unictam tablets:
UNICTAM 375TAB
The Unictam tablet contains Tosylate salt equivalent to 375 mg of sultamicillin which is a co-prodrug of Sulbactam and Ampicillin yielding the equivalent of 147 mg of Sulbactam and 220 mg of Ampicillin.
Unictam syrup:
UNICTAM 250MG SUSP
Each 5ml suspension contains Sultamicillin 250mg.
Unictam ampoules:
Vial for intramuscular / intravenous injection
1500 mg vial, 375 mg vial, 750 mg vial.
Unictam is used in the following cases:
Upper respiratory tract infections including sinusitis, otitis media, and tonsillitis.
Lower respiratory tract infections including bacterial pneumonia and bronchitis.
Urinary tract and kidney infections.
Skin and soft tissue infections and gonococcal infections.
Intra-abdominal infections.
Skin infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus mirabilis, Bacteroides fragilis, and Enterobacteriaceae.
Intra-abdominal infections are caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella and Proteus mirabilis, fragilis bacteria, and Enterobacteriaceae.
Gynecological Infections caused by beta-lactamase producing strains of Escherichia coli*, and Bacteroides* (including fragilis bacteria*).
Respiratory, ear, and middle infections
Dosage of use for Unictam
adult dose
Genital tract infections
1.5 g to 3 g every 6 hours (intramuscular or intravenous) not to exceed 12 g / day
Intra-abdominal infections
1.5 g to 3 g every 6 hours (intramuscular or intravenous) not to exceed 12 g / day
Skin and skin structure infections
1.5 g to 3 g every 6 hours (intramuscular or intravenous) not to exceed 12 g / day
orbital cellulitis
3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours
pelvic inflammatory disease
3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours
Pneumonia
Community acquired: 1.5 g (1 g ampicillin + 0.5 g sulbactam) to 3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours for 5 days or longer
Infection obtained from hospital:
3 g IV every 6 hours for 5 days or longer
Urinary tract infections
3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours for 14 days
Acute bacterial sinusitis
1.5 g (1 g ampicillin + 0.5 g sulbactam) to 3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours for 5-7 days
Endocarditis (the layer surrounding the heart)
3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours for 6 weeks
HACEK infection
g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) IV every 6 hours for 4 weeks
Children’s dose
skin infections
Older than 1 year (less than 40 kg): 200 mg/kg/day intravenously divided every 6 hours; Do not exceed 14 days of treatment
Greater than 1 year (over 40 kg): 1.5 g (1 g ampicillin + 0.5 g sulbactam) to 3 g (2 g ampicillin + 1 g sulbactam) every 6 hours; Do not exceed 12g/day
Epiglottitis
Children and adolescents: 100-200 mg ampicillin/kg/day fourth divided every 6 hours
Mild/moderate infection
Greater than 1 month-1 year: 100-150 mg ampicillin/kg/day IM or IV divided every 6 hours
Older than 1 year: 100-200 mg ampicillin/kg/day IM or IV divided every 6 hours
Meningitis / severe infections
Greater than 1 month-1 year: 200-300 mg ampicillin/kg/day IV/IM divided every 6 hours
Greater than 1 year: 200-400 mg ampicillin/kg/day IV/IM divided every 6 hours
Peritonsillar abscess and retropharyngeal abscess
Children and adolescents: 200 mg ampicillin/kg/fourth day divided every 6 hours
elderly dose
Return to the adult dose but with extreme caution and start with the lowest effective dose

What are the contraindications to the use of Unictam?
It is forbidden to use the medicine without consulting a specialized doctor in the following cases:
Hypersensitivity to any of the components.
Hypersensitivity to a drug of the penicillin or cephalosporin group.
Previously had cholestasis jaundice.
Hepatic impairment caused by ampicillin or sulbactam.
