Indications of Controloc
Pantoprazole is used to treat damage from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and possible injury of the esophagus (the tube between the throat and stomach) in adults and children 5 years of age and older.
Pantoprazole allows the esophagus to heal and prevents further damage to the esophagus in adults with GERD.
It is treats conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in adults.
Mechanism of Action
Pantoprazole is in a class of medications called proton-pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
Pantoprazole comes as a delayed-release (releases the medication in the intestine to prevent break-down of the medication by stomach acids) tablet and as delayed-release granules to take by mouth.
H (+)/K (+)-ATPase of the proton pump mainly regulates Hydrochloric acid (HCl) secretion into the gastric lumen, in high quantities by the parietal cells of the stomach. ATPase is an enzyme on the parietal cell membrane that facilitates hydrogen and potassium exchange through the cell, which normally results in the extrusion of potassium and formation of HCl (gastric acid).
What is the Dose of Controloc ?
For the treatment and maintenance of GERD, take pantoprazole once a day. For the treatment of conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, take pantoprazole twice daily.
Take delayed tablets with or without food, and take the granules 30 minutes before a meal.
Take pantoprazole at around the same time every day.
Swallow the tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them. If your doctor has prescribed the 40 mg tablet and it is too big for you to swallow, ask your doctor to prescribe two of the 20 mg tablets instead.
To take the granules, open the packet and either sprinkle the granules into a cup containing one teaspoonful of apple juice. Do not mix the granules with water, other liquids, or other foods.
Continue to take pantoprazole even if you feel well. Do not stop taking pantoprazole without talking to your doctor. If your condition does not improve or gets worse, call your doctor.

Pantoprazole and its metabolites have been found to be excreted in the milk of rats. A study suggests that pantoprazole excretion in human milk with a single nursing mother after one 40 mg oral dose. The clinical relevance of this finding is not clear. However, you must take note of this finding when considering pantoprazole use during nursing. Many drugs excreted in human breastmilk have a risk for serious adverse effects in nursing infants.
