CLARITINE SYRUP
Claritine Syrup (Loratadine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and a runny nose.
Loratadine treats sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other cold or allergy symptoms.
Loratadine treats skin hives and itching in people with chronic skin reactions.
ACTIVE-INGREDIENT OF CLARITINE SYRUP
Claritine Syrup contains the active substance loratadine which belongs to a class of medicines called ʺ antihistamines ʺ (Every 10 ml of the syrup contains 10 mg of loratadine)
INDICATIONS OF CLARITINE SYRUP
- Claritine relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitides ( for example, hay fever) such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and burning or itchy eyes in adults and children over the age of 2 years.
- Claritine may also be used to help relieve symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria ( itching, redness, and number and size of hives).

DOSAGE OF CLARITINE SYRUP
Usual Adult Dose of Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis:
10 mg orally once a day
Usual Adult Dose for Urticaria:
10 mg orally once a day
Usual Pediatric Dose for Allergic Rhinitis:
2 to 5 years: 5 mg orally once a day (syrup)
6 years or older: 10 mg orally once a day (tablets, capsule, and disintegrating tablets)
Usual Pediatric Dose for Urticaria:
2 to 5 years: 5 mg orally once a day (syrup)
6 years or older: 10 mg orally once a day (tablets, capsule, and disintegrating tablets)
What are the alternatives of Claritine ?
Special Population
In Pregnancy:
Animal Models have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity or embryotoxicity.
There are no controlled data on human pregnancy.
Pregnancy category B1
Drugs that have been taken by only a limited number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age, without an increase in the frequency of malformation or other direct
indirect harmful effects on the human fetus.
This drug should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risk to the fetus.
In Breast-feeding:
Excreted into human milk: Yes
This drug should be used during breastfeeding. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risk to the fetus.
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF CLARITINE SYRUP
Do not take Claritine if: You are allergic (hypersensitive) to loratadine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. So, Children younger than 2 years shouldn’t use Claritine.
Drug interactions with Claritine Syrup
There is two disease interaction with loratadine which include:
Renal and liver disease.
STORAGE OF CLARITINE SYRUP
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store at a temperature between 2°C to 30° C . Therefore, keep the bottle of in the outer carton in order to protect from light. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.
