DOSAGE OF BETADINE OINT 20GM

The recommended dose is : –

betadine should only be used for infants under 6 months or in small children under strict conditions where strongly indicated . – apply many times daily in the evening on the area needed to be disinfected . If required , cover with bandage . The treatment should be continued as long as the symptoms of an infection or a particular risk of infection are present or till complete recovery . upon infection relaps , treatment may be resumed .

OVER-DOSAGE OF BETADINE OINT 20GM

in case of accidental ingestion of large quantities of betadine ( 7 g/kg body weight ) , the following symptoms can occur : epigastric pain , vomiting , nausea and diarrhea , polydipsia , abdominal cramps , hypertension , tachycardia , cyanosis, headache , dizziness , delirium , collapse and numbness . in case of intoxication , immediate administration of strach solution and sodium thiosulfate solution . in addition , a careful clinical monitoring of the thyroid gland fuction should be performed to rule out a possible iodine – induce hyperthyroidism or to detect it early betadine is bactericidal , fungicidal , sporicidal , protozoacidal and virucidal . this microbicidal activity is caused by the oxidation and iodization of viral structures of microorganisms by iodine which is released from the povidone-iodine- complex . the effect occurs rapidly and is irreversible . the brown coloration of betadine ia a property of povidone-iodine and shows its efficacy . an increasing discoloration indicates a decrease in efficacy of the preparation . with complete discoloration no more efficacy is left . betadine disinfectant wound ointment is greaseless and therefore washable .

CONTRA-INDICATION OF BETADINE OINT 20GM

hypersensitivity to iodine or any of the ingredients in composition . In hyperthyroidism and other thyroid diseases . – in dermatitis herpetiformis . – during or before a radio – iodine therapy ( tell the completion of treatment ) . In neonates and infants below 6 months .
